Introducing 'Clutch', an innovative racing game poised to redefine the genre by blending high-octane racing with a compelling crime narrative, developed by the visionary minds at Maverick Games.

Experience the Thrill: Beyond the Track, Into the Story

Maverick Games' Ambitious Debut in the Racing World

The highly anticipated racing game, 'Clutch', marks the inaugural offering from Maverick Games, a studio spearheaded by Mike Brown, formerly the creative director behind 'Forza Horizon 5'. This new title is among the initial wave of racing simulations conceptualised by ex-'Forza Horizon' developers, all striving to innovate within the genre. 'Clutch' is presented as a narrative-rich racing adventure, focusing on the exploits of two siblings engaged in competitive racing, set against the picturesque backdrop of what appears to be the French Riviera.

Integrating Crime and High-Speed Pursuits into the Racing Experience

'Clutch' incorporates several elements familiar to fans of 'Forza Horizon', such as a diverse roster of licensed vehicles, an alluring tourist destination, and a dynamic mix of officially sanctioned races alongside clandestine street competitions. Uniquely, the game weaves in a compelling crime storyline, echoing themes found in 'Need for Speed' and even 'Grand Theft Auto'. Players will follow the protagonist as they navigate through unforeseen predicaments, seemingly leading to thrilling automotive heists and intense police chases.

Innovative Gadgetry for Dynamic Gameplay

A distinctive feature of 'Clutch' is the ability to equip vehicles with 'James Bond'-esque gadgets, designed to assist players during high-stakes pursuits. The promotional trailer showcased an impressive grappling cable that extends from the front of the car, enabling spectacular manoeuvres like slingshotting around obstacles, adding a layer of strategic depth to the chases.

Exploring Competitive Racing and Underground Culture

The central characters, a brother and sister duo, find themselves entangled in both the century-old R1K motorsport series and the underground street racing scene known as the Midnight Collective. According to Brown, the Midnight Collective embodies "the raw thrill of speed," promising an exhilarating experience for players.

Unprecedented Customisation and Visual Fidelity

Maverick Games has showcased meticulously detailed car models, exhibiting realistic signs of ageing and wear. 'Clutch' distinguishes itself from competitors like 'Forza', 'Gran Turismo', and other racing titles by offering unparalleled interior customisation options, in addition to exterior modifications. Players can choose from official manufacturer specifications, install aftermarket seats and steering wheels, and even personalise the cabin with everyday items such as coffee cups, parking tickets, trinkets, and discarded apparel.

Anticipated Showcase at Summer Game Fest

A comprehensive follow-up trailer for 'Clutch' is slated for release at the Summer Game Fest on Friday, June 5. Brown has indicated that this trailer will officially introduce the game's characters and confirm its geographical setting. While the Riviera seems a definite locale, there's speculation that the game's scope might extend into northern Italy, mirroring the expansive environment of 'Forza Horizon 2'.

Overcoming Development Challenges and Securing Future Partnerships

Initially, 'Clutch' was slated for publication by Amazon, but the technology conglomerate withdrew from the agreement in February. Despite this setback, Maverick Games demonstrated robust financial stability, enabling continued development. The studio is actively seeking a new publishing partner to bring 'Clutch' to market. Maverick is not alone in this competitive landscape; Lighthouse Games, also situated near 'Forza Horizon' developer Playground Games in Leamington Spa, U.K., and comprising former Playground staff, is concurrently developing its own open-world racing title, signalling a vibrant era for the racing game genre.
